smile 2: “GRIEVED YOU” HIDDEN MEANING

One of the great things about cracking an immensely successful YouTube strategy is that eventually other teams will come to you asking to use your skills. That’s in essence what happened when the Paramount Movies team approached us looking to create content for their vast library of films as well as upcoming productions such as Smile 2.

On this project I was able to fully embrace my tinfoil movie theorist hat on and go wild speculating on what could be in store next for the Smile universe. Every project provides an opportunity to learn new tricks while experimenting with new edit techniques to portray your ideas and this video is no exception.

I’ve been a long time fan of Transformers since they were airing the latest episodes on Toonami’s after school lineup. So naturally getting a chance to combine my love for this series with picking out minute details in the background of shots was always going to be a match made in heaven. I guess you could say when it comes to dropping references and finding easter eggs I have the Touch.

SCREAM Franchise - HORROR MOVIE TROPES

This video was a real pleasure to produce and edit, not because I’m a particularly big fan of the Scream franchise, but because I love movie tropes in general. One tool I’ve always found useful when coming up with video ideas is the TV Tropes site for common motifs throughout media. Though be warned, curiosity can have you clicking through that site for hours! Unfortunately, as of writing this description, this video has still yet to be posted for a number of reasons but there’s no reason you shouldn’t enjoy it!

Avatar - Four NATIONS FORUM 101

My first assignment as a freelancer editor when approached to work for Nickelodeon; I really didn’t know what to expect or what it would inevitably lead to. If it wasn’t already obvious this was a COVID project where producers were trying to come up with safe ideas for content.

Ultimately this proved to be an invaluable experience as it not only led to my many years working at Nickelodeon but also helped me hone in my editorial skills for longform podcast videos while sharpening my sizzle reel editing. Say what you will about LinkedIn but sometimes responding to that random job post can change your life.

My first real foray into ‘creative theory crafting’, what is there to say about the short lived iConspiracy series? It was originally suggested to me by a family member and brought into a brainstorm where I thought it had zero chance of getting picked up. Ultimately it was lovingly received and went on to inspire several more creative writing formats. It was definitely a fun exercise in picking out any evidence that supports your thesis and blatantly ignoring every tidbit of information that doesn’t.
